For the one person in the world who doesn’t know.

J.K “I’m richer than both the Queens of England¹” Rowling, has signed a deal to publish her first novel “for adults”. The as yet untitled book will be released through Little, Brown in multiple formats [hardcover, eBook, Paperback etc etc.] and while no release date [nor title / genre / plot] has been announced, it’s rumoured to be released later this year.

Here’s some of the reaction thus far:

…Countless adults read the Harry Potter books (terrifying, I know), and most the best selling books are very badly written in terms of ‘style’.

…She writes like a twelve year old would like to be able to write. Nothing a good editor wouldn’t solve, but who will stand up to her now?

…Maybe now she is writing for adults she could learn some synonyms for ‘said’, and refrain from adding an adverb to every verb.

[And people look at me like I’m mad, when I say there’s an inherent form of snobbery / elitism that takes place, where ever lots of people and books gather!]

Personally? If it’s anywhere near as good as the Harry Potter books, I’ll be happy. I honestly couldn’t give a flying fuck if her writing is considered “sub-standard”. If I wanted to read “literature” I’d do another English course - books, for me, are more about the plot / characters, than the literary merit of the words the author choses to employ.

The only thing I’ve got to decide? Physical book or eBook? Something tells me Amazon are going to discount the life out of the physical copy - I wonder if it might end up being the title with the biggest price discrepancy between formats?

¹Elizabeth & Elton, of course.
