We’re all going to hell… apparently
Needless to say LGBT Going To Hell is not a book I am going to be purchasing anytime soon. Amazon are selling the e-book by A.Christian for 77p and by the looks of it the actual author doesn’t want to be identifiable due to the blatant hatred and contempt that it breeds. I want to download it just to read the stupid and outrageous statements that it clearly contains but I don’t want to spend 77p on it, or increase it’s download figures. Judging by the reviews of the people who have downloaded it however, it is written by a religious fundamentalist for other like minded bigots. It has seven 1 star reviews and it describes itself as “a small fundamentalist Christian book that seeks to tell the LGBT community that it is in sin and lives a lifestyle that is against God’s Holy Word the Bible. This is not a book to win friends but to call sinners to repentance”.
Now I am all for free speech, and people unfortunately do believe that us lesbians and gays are going straight to hell for all our ‘sins’, but selling it on Amazon? Let the haters try to distribute their own spiel, I’m just not sure the world’s biggest online retailer should be selling it to the masses. Some people want books like this banned but I personally don’t agree, everyone should have the right to say and write what they want. I don’t think it’s a smart move by Amazon to sell it though, as one of the many people who have complained to the retailer has stated ‘would they sell a book entitled Black People Going To Hell?’ This type of book can and does incite hatred and I’m curious to hear a statement from Amazon on why it is stocking the title in the first place.
There’s a fine line between offering up an unpopular opinion [Christ knows I’ve experienced that this afternoon!] and publishing something that could be used to insight hatred towards a group of people.
If you feel the book crosses over that line [and it would seem, from a quick glance, this particular title most definitely does] then you should contact Amazon, to complain. It’s what people did with that “Paedophiles handbook” that was published last year, and eventually, after people complained, Amazon removed the book.
