Amazons’ latest results are in…

The condensed version?

  • Earnings down 57% compared to this time last year.
  • Projected revenue this quarter: $12BN to $13.4BN
  • Operating expenses up, again - 38% compared to last year.

Now, to the untrained eye, that’s - I believe the expression would be “alarming as all fuck”. Shit even to someone who follows the goings on at Amazon, it’s, at first glance, alarming.

However, Amazon has been spending a fuck-tonne of money¹ over the last few years - Amazons “Kindle Department” [Lab126] alone, has an operating budget that outstrips Barnes & Noble. Not Barnes & Nobles’ Nook division - the whole of Barnes & Noble. [which is why you’ll never see me slate the people who make the Nook. Sure I’ll rip on B&N as a company; the Nook ecosystem etc, etc, but the device itself is alright].

Then there’s the money on improving their distribution channels, etc, etc.

In short - don’t expect their operating profits to increase for a while - I wouldn’t be surprised if they report a loss in the next quarter.

[How long before I see “HA! Amazon are Fucked” posts in the Kindle & or Amazon tags, I wonder?]
