eBook?!

larissadreamcatcher:

First, they took Borders away from me, now they might take away Barnes and Noble away from me too?

Hell no!

I love the smell of new books, I love the feeling of turning the pages, I love the fact that authors could sign your books. And where would they signed it when everyone has an eBooks?

I would never buy an eBook! Never!

This generation is becoming too dependable on technology that it is hurting other businesses.

And I would be more devastated if my local comic bookstore closes down because of the digital comics.

Putting to one side the usual ignorance about Borders [Here’s why they went bust. Read it and learn something] let’s just take a moment to point out the obvious:

You’re complaining about eBooks. On tumblr, of all places…The original lead developer for tumblr was a person called Marco Arment. Using the experience gained from tumblr, Arment went on to develop Instapaper, one of the most used applications / services on eReaders. You know, those things that read eBooks.

Tumblr uses Amazons’ web hosting solutions. All those rants about how eBooks suck, and how ooh so lovely paper is? They all get stored somewhere. That somewhere, being a server within Amazon. You know, that company who make eReaders and eBooks. You think Amazon provide that space for free? Nope. Your little rant probably contributed - however inestimably small the percentage - towards Amazons Research and Development budget.

Funding, how about that? One of the biggest investors in tumblr are a private venture capitalist firm called Sequoia Capital. Other firms they’ve invested in? Ooh let’s see… Apple & Google. Creators of iBooks and Google eBooks respectively.

There are more, but I think that proves the point: When ranting about eBooks, ‘tis probably not such a good idea to do so on a platform with ties to that industry.

Ooh, btw:

This generation is becoming too dependable on technology that it is hurting other businesses.

The people who make journals called… Seems this whole “blogging” thing is putting them under a lot of pressure, and they’d like the younger generations to go back to blogging on paper.
