So an unexpected family emergency kinda put paid to my plans for the day - replying to comments etc, etc. I’m not sure when exactly I’ll get to them, as I’m still waiting on more information from the hospital, not to mention getting there, over the new years period, is going to be a tad difficult.

That aside, I hope everyone has a nice New Years. Be it a busy one, or a quiet...

The fact that I need a Wifi spot or pay an expensive fee for 3G turns me off from e-readers. But honestly, I do think their pretty neat. Except my future kids are getting physical books.
I may by an iPad for them to play games though or some other cool electronic advice. But I won’t plan on having any kids for at least another decade and a lot can change in 10 years so…

People confuse me at times.
Because when you strip aside the “romantic notions” people have towards the physical characteristics of a paper-based book, most books are every bit as enjoyable on an eReader, as they are when presented via the printed word.
That’s before you even begin to address the significant advantages you can get from reading on an...

I was reminded of the need to update the FAQ part...
A few days ago someone sent me eight messages in a row. I haven’t gotten round to replying to them yet [not sure how you reply to an eight part message, truth be told] but one of the things that was mentioned, was the FAQ section of the “site”. I knocked it together pretty quickly, but truth be told, it really does need updating.
I’m just not sure what it should encompass....
BTW..
You know what’s pathetic? When someone offers you advice on how you can utilise a gift you were given, without incurring any additional costs, and you refer to it as a “Kindle Fight”.
I’ve lost interest - Fuck off. Go back to your ooh so elegant “followers”.
Update: I had a look not only at the comments from your followers, but also their tumblr accounts in...

Nana’s 90 year old live-in bastard gentleman friend apparently gave her a Kindle for Christmas.
…WHY?
I mean… but WHY??
She reads a lot, sure, but there’s no way she’s going to be able to work it. It’s a terrible device. I consider myself fairly tech-savvy and I hate the stupid thing. Besides that, she loves going to the library. She goes...
Thanks to Lauren, I've decided to get a kindle
daysaremadefordreaming:
That way I’ll be able to take all my books everywhere ;D
Does anyone know if you need windows on your computer though? I can’t have itunes or spotify so I hope it isn’t the case for kindles D;
All the Kindles - the eInk models, and the Kindle Fire, work across all three main Operating Systems - Windows | Mac OS and Linux. They’re recognised on your computer as...

Trying to figure out how to either hack my nook tablet into accepting kindle app or how to get my kindle books on my nook tablet any suggestions?
Please help?
The easiest way would be to return it, and get a Kindle :) Assuming that’s not an option, and in all seriousness:
If your Kindle books don’t have any DRM on them - if they’re basic .mobi files, you...
I'd rather have an actual book in my hands instead...

electronic robot reading machine thing.
OMG They’ve finally made those things! My childhood dream come true - DO WANT!
…
Ooh - you mean eReaders. Those things that preserve and present, the exact work that an author has produced? Someimes with extra features not found in physical books?
Shame - you got my hopes up there!

Over 100,000 HarperCollins UK e-books were downloaded on Christmas Day, the publisher has announced.
HarperCollins said the figure, which covers UK and international territories including Australia and New Zealand, but not the US, was a record high and an increase of over 600% on the daily average title download during the previous month.
The most popular titles downloaded were George R R...

Thank God Hermione sucked at Divination!!!
tippykazoo:
If she saw that we’ve got Kindles in the future, she’d have had a fit!!!
“What do you mean I don’t have to carry around all my books anymore?!”
If you subscribe to the Harry Potter book universe, as opposed to the movie one, then even if Hermione had forseen the invention of Kindles / eReaders, it wouldn’t have mattered for three reasons:
[Conjecture] I find it hard to...

Once all the independent bookshops have closed down because people insist on buying their books on Amazon (or have converted to ‘e-books’, which really need a new name because they are not ‘books’. ‘e-novels’ maybe?), there will be no reason for Amazon not to charge full price for their books.
People will have no choice but to pay full price for a book they haven’t seen or felt yet,...

Why does the Kindle version of the Game of Thrones set cost more than the paper version?
Paper Version: Amazon have the autonomy to set their own price. If they want to make a loss on sales of the book, that’s their perogative.
eBook Version: The publisher dictates the price at which each copy has to be sold. It’s called the “Agency Model” and Amazon / other...

Y’all know the type - people who fawn over a books “Smell, weight, heft etc, etc.”
In and of itself, of course it’s perfectly fine. I don’t pretend to understand it, but meh - to each his / her own. Personally I’d rather fawn over this than paper, but then us humans are a weird bunch.
I also understand the appeal of having books out on display - I’m off...

As much as I love tangible books with pages that I can turn, I gotta say this kindle is actually pretty sick. It’s small and portable and I don’t have to worry about pages folding or the cover fading. I feel like I’m gonna get a lot of hate now from people who like reading…
Hate from people who like reading? Nope. They should be happy about anyone reading, regardless the...

I don’t usually recommend specific books or authors through this account, nor do I post up book reviews - when I do, those tend to be over on my personal stream. But I thought I’d break my own self-enforced rule, just this once.
Michael Connelly is one of my favourite authors. I adore crime novels [recommendations always welcome!] and Connelly is one of the best in the business at the...

Books vs Kindle
bthecollector:
We can’t let technology, which so unreliable as it is, take over the book industry. They (the experts of absolute nothing) believe that the availability of iPhone’s, smart phones, iPad’s, kindles and anything you can think of, will replace books.
Let us just take a step back here and talk about the book. I myself have read some books and will always rely on them, fictional and...

[UK] Amazons' 12 Days of Christmas Promotion.
Or:
BUY ALL THE BOOKS!!!!
Since Boxing Day [December 26th] Amazon have been having a bit of a sale on their eBooks. Most are listed under the “12 Days of Christmas” promotion, accessible from the Kindle storefront, however there are other titles that have also been reduced - some surprisingly, I have to say.
For example Micro the final book from Michael Crichton [co-written /...

I just spent 20 minutes reading Great Expectations, and I can’t understand why you’d want a Kindle or books on an iPad. Half of the enjoyment of reading a book is turning the pages and actually having it. If that’s gone, that what’s left?
Erm.. The text? The story / information the author slaved away at creating, and had full control over, rather than some peripheral sensory...

Let me state, first and foremost, this is all my opinion, and therefore it is COMPLETELY, inherently biased. I know so many people who disagree with me. I’m just one idiot fighting change. People who fight change generally lose, and I’m aware of that. There were many people who were against the car, because they loved horses, living, breathing horses, over something that...

Today I contemplated getting a Kindle. Actually, I’ll probably go pick one up tomorrow. I’ve hada good experience with ebooks, the Kindle service in particular. So in the effort to make up mind a little more, I just started browsing tumblr posts related to Kindle and other eReaders.
Needless to say, books are also in the middle of a format war.

Naughty Naughty browsing those .torrent sites ;)
It’s a bit like making a cake. Kinda. I’ve noticed, at least with the Kindle Keyboard, that it’s best to load around 150 at at time, as that way it takes less time for the machine to index them all. [I seem to recall...

[Queued Post] Happy Holidays!
If I’ve done my maths right, and tumblr doesn’t go all “timey wimey” and decide to do it’s own thing, this should be posted at 10:45am, on the morning of Christmas Day.
Happy Holidays.

1st publishing exec: "People are finding it real easy to remove DRM from our digital editions."
2nd publishing exec: "You mean people can easily download illegal copies of stuff?"
1st publishing exec: "Exactly."
2nd publishing exec: "What are we going to do?"
1st publishing exec: "We're going to increase the price paid for obtaining the product legally."
2nd publishing exec: "Wow, that's genius."

I know it can be done, but how… someone help?
Do you have to do the kindle e-mail thing? Or can I just put them on a flashdrive and use my micro connector and put them on that way?
And can they be PDFs or do I have to convert them into something else?
Thank you!
